Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana Film Review (2005)

Finally, another film review that isn’t Bollywood. Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana is a Telugu film starring Siddharth Narayan, Trisha Krishnan, Veda Sastry,  Prakash Raj and Srihari.

This Telugu film is about two siblings, and what happens when one of them falls in love with a person of a completely opposite status.

Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana starts with Krishna (Srihari) and Siri (Trisha Krishnan), two siblings, both very young, who are dragged around by their mother in her attempt to remarry. Their mother is betrayed by her second husband, and dies of heartbreak. Leaving child-Krishna to take care of baby Siri. Trouble ensues after they bury the mother. Her grave was located on debted-land. When loaners came and saw the grave set up in the middle of a farm field, they felt outraged and demanded the grave be destroyed. Young Krishna protested, and claimed he would pay back the money owed. He would work the farm land, and grow enough crops to pay back the money in installments while caring for his infant sister.

Years pass, the two grow up. Krishna is still farming, while Siri goes to school. One day while Siri is in her early twenties, her best friend Lalita (Veda Sastry) pays Siri a visit. There she drops the news that she is to be married in fifteen days and has come to collect Siri to help with wedding preparations.

At Lalita’s house, Siri happens upon Lalita’s NRI cousin, whom she calls a monkey from London. Santosh (Siddarth) and Siri tease each other and wonder if there is something, something between them.

From there drama ensues, with a jealous potential fiance and a work-a-holic brother against their union.

Our Rating: 8/10

Non-lengthy Telugu films seem hard to find sometimes, but Nuvvostanate Nenoddananta presents a refreshing take on the film group. The plot is well rounded, and doesn’t leave anyone wanting at the end–very well put together. The film also features an excellent soundtrack and a great cast. The film plays out in two parts with the beginning being half-rich boy meets poor girl, and the second half unexpectedly becomes rich boy-gets dirty to get the girl he wants.

This should be on your must watch list for Telugu Films.
