Yuvvraaj is a Hindi Language film from 2008, starring Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor, Boman Irani, and Zayed Khan. A.R Rahman did the music for this (which is incredible and the soundtrack is a must for your library–Rahman merges classic european music with classic indian music for an interesting modern twist).
The movie starts out with Deven Yuvvraaj, (Salman Khan) living in Austria, trying to make his break into the world of music as a singer. There he falls in love with Anushka (Kaif) and wishes to marry her, but her father Dr. Banton (Boman Irani) just will not give his daughter to a man poorer than himself.
Deven takes a chance, and attempts to convince Dr. Banton to give him her hand, he succeeds–but only on the terms that Deven become extremely rich in a short amount of time otherwise he loses Anushka forever.
Desperate to win Anushka’s father’s favor, Deven seeks out his rich family trying to fulfill Dr. Banton’s conditions, but trouble stirs when his ideals clash with his two brothers’ and when an evil uncle enters the picture.
Our Rating: 8.5/10
This movie has an incredible soundtrack, and the setting is beautiful. The film starts out a bit slow, but picks quickly towards the end of the movie, when Deven faces many unforeseen obstacles in the way of his happiness. Anil Kapoor plays Gyanesh Yuvvraaj (Deven’s austic brother who is a musical genius) incredibly well. The mix of characters and their development throughout the film really make this film a charm. If you like European filmed movies, and comedies that unexpectedly turn dramatic towards the end, this is a must see.
