Mausam Review

Mausam Review

Last night, I was able to catch a cheap (final) viewing of Mausam on the big screen. I never usually go to the theater for Bollywood films, but I did for this, and probably will for the upcoming R.A One film.

The film stars Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor (daughter of actor Anil Kapoor) as the lead character Harry and Aayat. The film begins in Punjab, introducing Harry (Shahid) as the village’s most popular boy–a kind trickster who wins all the girls hearts. Aayat (Sonam) moves to Harry’s village as a refugee, who fled from Kashmir during a time of turmoil in the early 90s. Harry falls for Aayat after seeing her face, yet their plans for marriage fail as unexpected danger and prospects separate the two. Eventually, seven years later, they meet again, but in the most unlikely of places–Harry has become a member of the Indian Airforce, and Aayat, a dancer, turned shopkeeper meets part time job employee. Danger and misunderstandings await their love story–but see how it plays out!

Our rating: 6/10
I will admit there hasn’t been any Hindi Love-Comedies set in a traditional village lately, so this was refreshing, but as the movie progressed, the plot became disjointed and questionable at times, especially near the ending and the middle of the film. I felt like I was watching six different popular Bollywood hits all at once. The only thing that this film was missing was more colorful and vibrant dance/music scenes. The Music scenes were few and far between, with only a few actual Bollywood dance numbers. Overall, its a decent film that will keep you wondering for days after your see it. A must for Sonam or Shahid Kapoor fans.
